Doctors Suspend Strike at Korle Bu After Management Assurances

Doctors at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital have called off their strike action just hours after it began, following assurances from hospital management to address tensions within the facility’s central laboratory.

The Korle Bu Doctors Association announced the suspension after an emergency meeting on Monday, stating that management had committed to ensuring laboratory physicians return to work.

According to the association, the decision was taken to restore normal operations and prevent further disruption to healthcare delivery.

In a statement, the group emphasised the need for collaboration between laboratory physicians and medical laboratory scientists, noting that peaceful coexistence is crucial for effective patient care.

Doctors have been directed to resume outpatient services from Tuesday, May 5.

The brief industrial action had sparked concerns over potential service disruptions at the country’s premier referral hospital. Its suspension is expected to ease pressure on patients who depend on the facility for specialised treatment.

The association added that it will continue engaging management as efforts to resolve the underlying issues persist.
