Menstrual Hygiene Month: New Era Foundation Distributes 1,000 Sanitary Pads to Girls in Techiman North

As part of activities marking Menstrual Hygiene Month, the New Era Foundation, a non-governmental organisation, has distributed more than 1,000 sanitary pads to young girls in 22 schools within the Techiman North District of the Bono East Region.
The exercise formed part of efforts to promote menstrual hygiene awareness and support girls, particularly those in rural communities, to remain confident and active in school during their menstrual periods.
Some of the beneficiary schools included Asueyi Methodist JHS, Akrofrom R/C JHS, Akrofrom D/A, Mesidan Methodist School, Aworowa D/A, and several others across the district.
Speaking to the media after the distribution exercise, the Chief Executive Officer and Founder of the New Era Foundation, Mr. Ameyaw Hagan, popularly known as Chairman Safari, highlighted the importance of menstrual hygiene and the need to support girls who have reached menstruation age.
According to him, many girls in deprived communities struggle to access sanitary products, a situation that negatively affects their confidence, health, and school attendance.
He explained that the initiative was aimed at helping to bridge that gap and ensuring that girls are able to manage their menstrual health with dignity.
Mr. Hagan also noted that this year’s Menstrual Hygiene Month celebration coincides with the foundation’s 11th anniversary, making the outreach exercise particularly significant for the organisation.
The Headmaster of Akrofrom R/C JHS, Mr. Colineus, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiary schools, expressed gratitude to the New Era Foundation for the support.
He commended the organisation for its commitment to the welfare of young girls and stated that the sanitary pads would greatly help the students remain in school during their menstrual periods.
According to him, such interventions play an important role in reducing absenteeism among schoolgirls and improving their overall well-being.
Some of the beneficiary students also expressed appreciation to the foundation for the donation, describing it as timely and beneficial.
They noted that the support would help ease the burden on their parents and enable them to attend school comfortably during menstruation.
The New Era Foundation has over the years undertaken various social intervention programmes aimed at supporting education, health, and youth empowerment in communities across the Bono East Region.
