President Mahama Commissions New Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory at Korle Bu

President John Dramani Mahama has commissioned a new cardiac catheterisation laboratory at the National Cardiothoracic Centre of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, a move expected to improve specialist heart care and reduce the need for patients to travel abroad for treatment.
The newly commissioned facility, established with support from the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, also known as MahamaCares, is designed to strengthen Ghana’s ability to diagnose and treat heart disease, stroke and other serious cardiovascular conditions.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, President Mahama described the laboratory as a major step forward in efforts to strengthen the country’s healthcare system and expand access to specialised cardiac services.
The modern facility is expected to improve early diagnosis and treatment, enabling more patients to receive advanced heart care locally while easing the financial burden of seeking treatment outside Ghana.
Health experts say the laboratory will increase the country’s capacity to provide lifesaving cardiac procedures and improve outcomes for thousands of people who require specialist care each year.
The commissioning forms part of the government’s wider agenda to improve healthcare infrastructure, expand access to quality medical services and deliver better health outcomes for people across the country.
