Daddy Lumba’s Sister Sets Record Straight: 11 Children with Four Women, Not 17, Amid Funeral Feud

Ernestina Akosua Brimpomaa Fosu, elder sister of the late highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu—affectionately known as Daddy Lumba—has clarified longstanding rumors about his family, revealing he fathered 11 children with four different women, countering claims of 17 by his wife Akosua Serwaa.

Speaking on UTV’s United Showbiz, Brimpomaa emphasized Lumba’s unwavering support for his global family until his death on July 26, 2025, at age 60 from a short illness at Accra’s Bank Hospital.

“My brother gave birth to 11 children with four women. Two of the women are now married to other men. Some of the children are in Canada and they are older. Some of the children are still in school. Until his demise, he used to send money to his children in Germany,” Brimpomaa detailed, painting a picture of Lumba’s transnational commitment despite his complex personal life.

This contrasts with earlier statements from Serwaa, Lumba’s Germany-based first wife, who in August claimed he had 17 children, sparking public speculation and family discord.

Conflicting reports from Lumba’s family post-death have varied, with some citing seven or nine children, underscoring the opacity around his legacy.

Brimpomaa’s disclosure arrives amid escalating tensions over Lumba’s funeral, now postponed indefinitely due to legal battles pitting Serwaa against other relatives, including his partner Priscilla Ofori-Atta (Odo Broni).

She recounted a family meeting where Serwaa asserted her right as the “legal wife” to solely perform traditional widowhood rites—a request Brimpomaa deemed reasonable, given their 1980s German marriage.

Yet, Brimpomaa alleged attempts to exclude Serwaa, herself, and Lumba’s overseas children from planning, fueling accusations of marginalization.

The rift, complicated by Lumba’s dual Ghanaian-German citizenship and clashing customary versus statutory laws, has drawn in spiritual figures like Rev. Nana Meshack Abboah, who lamented the “tension between Akosua Serwaa and Odo Broni,” noting it’s “not taboo to have two wives” and Lumba would be saddened.

Serwaa’s lawyer, William Kusi, blamed the family head for the impasse, insisting the suit seeks only recognition, not disgrace.

Lumba’s children, including those with Serwaa, have distanced themselves, issuing a statement via Charlyn Fosu prioritizing unity over litigation.

Evangelist Papa Shee, Lumba’s former protégé, added fuel by hinting at additional undisclosed baby mamas emerging post-death, urging compassion without abandonment.

As X buzzes with memes likening the saga to modern scandals—drawing parallels to rapper Medikal’s entanglements—the family drama eclipses Lumba’s monumental contributions, from 33 albums to pioneering Burger Highlife and earning a spot on King Charles III’s 2025 Commonwealth playlist with “Mpempem Do Me.”

Brimpomaa’s plea for clarity aims to honor his memory amid the “konkonsa,” but resolution remains elusive as court dates loom.
