Cyber Security Chief Suspended Over Military Escort Controversy

Divine Selase Agbeti, Director-General of the National Cyber Security Authority (NCSA), has been suspended for two weeks, effective July 15, 2025, following a directive from the Office of the President and the Minister for Communications.

The suspension arises from an investigation into alleged misconduct involving Agbeti’s use of a uniformed military officer as a personal bodyguard at an event hosted by Ho West MP Emmanuel Bedzrah, without proper clearance.

A letter from Dr. Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President, expressed concern over the incident, citing a widely circulated image showing the officer behind Agbeti during a public address.

The Presidency views this as a breach of protocol, potentially violating the Code of Conduct for Public Appointees and undermining public service decorum.

The Minister for Communications issued a query, and the suspension allows for an impartial inquiry, with a preliminary report due within seven days.

The matter, causing significant public backlash, is being treated with urgency, with disciplinary recommendations pending the investigation’s outcome.
