Family Escapes Unharmed as Car Catches Fire Near Peduase Presidential Lodge

A family narrowly escaped disaster on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, when their Mitsubishi Outlander (registration GE 3557-24) burst into flames near the Peduase Presidential Lodge in Akuapem South Municipality, Eastern Region, while they were en route to escort their daughter to Benkum Senior High School in Larteh.

The incident occurred around 6:00 p.m., with the vehicle becoming fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters from the Peduase Fire Post, supported by the Akropong Fire Station under ADO I Brenya, responded swiftly, controlling the blaze by 6:18 p.m. and fully extinguishing it by 6:20 p.m. with additional assistance from the Aburi Fire Station.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) reported no injuries, but the family lost personal belongings, including a trunk and school supplies for their daughter. Preliminary investigations point to an electrical fault as the likely cause of the fire, consistent with a series of vehicle fire incidents in 2025, such as those at Ablekuma-Curve (September 14) and Esankwanta (June 2).

The GNFS used the incident to urge the public to prioritize fire safety and keep emergency numbers accessible, emphasizing the importance of rapid response in preventing loss of life. The event adds to growing concerns about vehicle-related fires, with six reported cases in Ghana since March 2025.
