CPP Slams President Akufo-Addo’s Founders’ Day Comments

The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has criticized President Akufo-Addo’s remarks during the Founders’ Day celebrations, where he downplayed the role of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah in Ghana’s independence.

The CPP described the president’s comments as an “unfortunate gaffe” and argued that he should have been more selective with his words. In a press release, the CPP chairperson, Patrick Nelson Sogbodjor, stated that the president’s claim that the fight for independence was a collective effort and not credited to one individual was inaccurate.

The party believes that the president’s comments were an attempt to tarnish Dr. Nkrumah’s legacy, which is revered in Ghana and Africa. The CPP also accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of perpetuating inaccuracies and massaging facts. They emphasized that Dr. Nkrumah is widely recognized as the founder of Ghana, who named the country after the old Ghana Empire on the eve of independence on March 6, 1957.
