Court Grants Interim Injunction Against Stage 1 Common Registration Examination for New Doctors

The Human Rights Court 2 of the High Court in Accra has granted an interim injunction restraining the Medical and Dental Council from enforcing the Stage 1 Common Registration Examination as a requirement for the provisional registration of 792 newly trained medical doctors.

The order also restrains the Attorney-General and the Ministry of Health from enforcing the requirement pending the hearing of the substantive matter and an injunction application on notice filed by the Federation of Ghana Medical Students’ Associations and the affected students.

In a press statement dated Wednesday, 21 October 2026, the Federation of Ghana Medical Students’ Associations said the ruling effectively halts the examination, which was scheduled for Thursday, 22 October.

The examination was a mandatory requirement for the affected doctors to obtain provisional registration and begin their housemanship.

The federation urged all parties to respect the court’s order as the legal proceedings continue.

It maintained that decisions affecting the professional future of graduating medical and dental students must be grounded in law, fairness and due process.

The Federation of Ghana Medical Students’ Associations also expressed appreciation to its legal team, the affected graduating classes and medical and dental students for their support.

The federation said further updates on the matter would be communicated through its official channels.
