NACOC Foils Major Drug Trafficking Attempt at Kotoka Airport, Arrests Two British Nationals

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has intercepted a major drug trafficking attempt at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA), leading to the arrest of two British nationals in separate intelligence-led operations.

According to NACOC, the suspects arrived in Ghana aboard an Emirates Airlines flight from Thailand when officers, acting on credible intelligence, singled them out for inspection. A thorough search of their luggage uncovered a large quantity of suspected illicit drugs believed to be cannabis.

In total, 90 vacuum-sealed slabs were retrieved. Sixty of the slabs weighed 32.89 kilograms, while the remaining 30 slabs weighed 33.44 kilograms, bringing the total seizure to more than 66 kilograms.

The suspected drugs have been secured as exhibits and are currently undergoing forensic analysis as part of ongoing investigations.

NACOC described the arrests as a significant breakthrough in Ghana’s fight against international drug trafficking and transnational organised crime. The Commission noted that the operation highlights the effectiveness of intelligence-driven border control measures.

The two suspects are currently in custody and are expected to be processed through the full rigours of the law, as authorities intensify efforts to identify and dismantle the wider criminal network behind the attempted smuggling operation.
