ID Verification Policy for Porn Sites to be Submitted to Cabinet — Sam George

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has disclosed plans to introduce a policy that would require users to verify their identity before accessing pornographic websites in Ghana.

According to the Minister, the proposed policy will mandate individuals to present a valid National ID card or driver’s licence before being granted access to adult content online.

Mr. George said the move forms part of efforts to protect children and minors from exposure to explicit material on the internet and to promote responsible digital usage.

He explained that the policy is expected to be submitted to Cabinet for consideration as government intensifies discussions on online safety and digital regulation.

The Minister stressed that unrestricted access to pornographic content poses serious risks to young people and argued that stronger safeguards are necessary to limit underage exposure.

If approved, the policy would introduce stricter age-verification requirements for adult websites operating or accessible in Ghana.

The proposal is likely to spark public debate over issues of online privacy, digital freedoms and internet regulation, as similar measures introduced in some countries have generated concerns from civil liberties groups and digital rights advocates.
