Chief of Staff Apologises to Church of Pentecost Over Awusi Remarks

Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has issued a public apology to the leadership of The Church of Pentecost following controversial remarks made by the CEO of the Ghana Free Zones Authority, Mary Awusi.

Mr Debrah expressed regret over the comments, which had been widely interpreted as critical of the church and its leadership, stressing that they were not intended to disrespect the institution.

He delivered the apology during his birthday thanksgiving service held at the Pentecost International Worship Centre (PIWC), Trassaco.

“A few days ago, one of our colleagues, Dr Mary Awusi, made an unfortunate remark that came across as being against you. On this occasion, I wish to formally extend an apology on behalf of all of us and ask that the entire church forgives us,” he stated.

The Chief of Staff described the incident as a “slip of expression” rather than a deliberate attack and appealed for understanding and reconciliation.

“We humbly ask for your forgiveness and acceptance, and we continue to regard ourselves as your children in faith,” he added.

The apology comes in the wake of public backlash after Dr Awusi criticised the Chairman of the Church of Pentecost over his comments on illegal mining (galamsey), a sensitive national issue that has sparked debate across political and religious circles.

Mr Debrah’s intervention is seen as an effort to ease tensions and restore cordial relations between government officials and the influential religious body.
