FAKE WASTE COLLECTOR ARRESTED IN ACCRA FOR EXTORTION

A 32-year-old Nigerian man has been arrested in Accra for allegedly engaging in unauthorized waste collection and extorting money from unsuspecting members of the public.
The suspect, identified as Dahiru, was apprehended during an early morning operation near the UTC area, following a tip-off to city authorities.
According to Accra Metropolitan Assembly official Gilbert Nii Ankrah, the arrest took place at about 3:00 a.m. at an illegal dumping site where the suspect had reportedly set up operations.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Dahiru posed as a legitimate waste collector, charging residents for refuse disposal services without authorization.
Authorities say the suspect had stationed himself at the site and was collecting money under false pretences, exploiting residents who believed he was operating legally.
The Accra Metropolitan Assembly has reiterated its commitment to sanitising the city and cracking down on illegal waste management activities. Residents have also been urged to verify the identity of waste collectors and report any suspicious individuals to the appropriate authorities.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
