Chairman Wontumi Pleads Not Guilty to GH¢14.3m EXIM Bank Fraud Charges

Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has pleaded not guilty to four criminal charges linked to an alleged GH¢14.3 million fraudulent transaction involving the Ghana Export-Import Bank (EXIM Bank).
Chairman Wontumi appeared before the High Court in Accra alongside Wontumi Farms Limited, while the second accused person, Thomas Antwi-Boasiako, remains at large.
The accused persons denied charges including defrauding by false pretence, authoring a forged document, money laundering, and intentionally causing financial loss to a public institution.
According to prosecutors, the accused allegedly obtained GH¢14.302 million from EXIM Bank in 2018 through false representations and later used a purported forged receipt to secure an additional GH¢4 million.
The court maintained the bail conditions earlier granted by EOCO after the prosecution confirmed Chairman Wontumi had cooperated with investigators and honoured all previous bail terms.
The case has been adjourned to June 18, 2026, for Case Management Conference (CMC).
