Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has been appointed as the Black Stars’ Clubs and Player Relations Manager, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced.
The appointment sees Ghana’s all-time leading scorer take on a newly created strategic role aimed at strengthening ties between the national team, its players and their clubs, while also improving player welfare and engagement.
Gyan, who scored a record 51 goals for Ghana, captained the Black Stars at multiple Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and three FIFA World Cups, making him one of the country’s most experienced international footballers.
The GFA believes his leadership, experience and close relationship with the current crop of players will be a valuable addition to the national team setup.
In his new position, the 40-year-old will act as a key link between the technical team, players and clubs, helping to facilitate communication over player call-ups, welfare matters and providing mentorship to the squad.
Before taking up the role, Gyan had continued working with Ghana’s national teams as an ambassador.
Gyan’s appointment comes as the Black Stars prepare to begin their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
Carlos Queiroz’s side will travel to Bouaké to face Côte d’Ivoire at the Stade de la Paix on 24 September before returning to the Accra Sports Stadium to host The Gambia on 27 September in their second Group C fixture.
Ghana will then conclude the international window with a friendly against Morocco at the Grand Stade de Tanger on 4 October.
