Hohoe United Withdraws from Ghana Premier League with Seven Matches Left – Cites Harsh Home Ban and Unfair Officiating

Hohoe United has officially announced its withdrawal from the ongoing 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season with just seven matches remaining.
The decision was taken after an emergency board and management meeting and marks a dramatic end to the club’s maiden campaign in Ghana’s top-flight league.
Hohoe United currently sits near the bottom of the table with 30 points from 27 matches, placing them in the relegation zone. However, the club’s officials say the withdrawal was triggered primarily by a controversial three-match home ban imposed earlier in the season following a security lapse at the Hohoe Sports Stadium.
The timing of the ban — during a critical relegation battle — has been described by the club as overly harsh and poorly timed. With 20 of their 30 points earned at home, Hohoe United relied heavily on home advantage. Under the ban, they will now play only one of their remaining seven fixtures at home, with the other six to be played away — even in matches where they are technically the home side.
In addition to the ban, the club has raised strong concerns over what it perceives as inconsistent and biased officiating in several of its matches, which they believe has further undermined their survival chances.
In a statement, Hohoe United described the cumulative effect of these issues as leaving them with “little hope of escaping relegation,” prompting the drastic decision to pull out of the competition.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is yet to issue an official response to the withdrawal, including how it will affect the league standings, remaining fixtures, or relegation calculations.
Hohoe United’s exit has sent shockwaves through Ghanaian football, with many stakeholders expressing concern over the growing list of challenges facing smaller clubs in the Premier League.
