Gov’t Sets Thursdays for World Cup Fund Pledges, Assures Transparency

The has designated Thursdays as official days for receiving pledges and updating the public on funds raised to support the ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking at a brief ceremony at the Ministry of Finance in Accra, Deputy Finance Minister assured Ghanaians of strict accountability in managing the funds.

He disclosed that all contributions are being paid directly into the official 2026 World Cup Fundraising Account at the to ensure transparency and proper utilisation.

According to him, the centralized system is designed to guarantee that every cedi raised is used solely for the preparation of the national team.

The fundraising exercise has already received strong support from the corporate sector. Leading the contributions is KGL Group, which donated GH¢5 million—half of its GH¢10 million pledge. Serene Insurance followed with a GH¢2 million cash donation, alongside a GH¢20 million insurance package for the team.

Other contributors include Icon Energy and Jewel Energy, each donating GH¢1 million. Erata Motors contributed GH¢200,000, while PayAngel donated GH¢100,000. A private businessman, Alex Okyere of KAF Company Limited, also made a personal donation of GH¢240,000.

Mr Ampem expressed appreciation to the donors, describing their contributions as a demonstration of patriotism and confidence in the team’s potential.

“We are grateful to all of you for your love for the Black Stars. Even though the first two friendly matches did not go well, we remain optimistic that the team will make us proud at the World Cup,” he stated.

The fundraising initiative, launched by President , aims to raise $30 million to adequately prepare Ghana for the global tournament.

To sustain momentum, the Ministry of Finance will hold weekly engagement sessions every Thursday, providing an opportunity for individuals and organisations to honour their pledges and support the national team’s World Cup ambitions.
