YEA to Recruit 6,000 Community Teaching Assistants by November

The Youth Employment Agency plans to recruit and deploy 6,000 young people as community teaching assistants by November 2026 under an initiative aimed at supporting basic education across the country.

Chief Executive Officer of the Agency, Malik Basintale, disclosed this during the Government Accountability Series on Wednesday, 21 October 2026.

He noted that the Agency had signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ghana Education Service to facilitate the recruitment.

He said the Community Teaching Assistant Model would provide additional support to teachers, particularly in schools located in hard-to-reach communities.

Basintale explained that the initiative would engage qualified young people to assist teaching staff while gaining practical classroom experience.

He stressed that the programme was not intended to replace trained teachers but to provide supplementary support to improve teaching and learning.

“I’m happy to report that, as of September, an MoU has been successfully signed with the Ghana Education Service for the onboarding of 6,000 beneficiaries, whom we hope to recruit and deploy by November this year,” he explained.

According to him, the initiative forms part of the Youth Employment Agency’s broader community-based interventions, which seek to create employment opportunities for young people while addressing specific development needs in local communities.

He added that the programmes were designed to help beneficiaries gain relevant work experience and earn incomes while providing services that benefit their communities.

The planned deployment is expected to provide additional classroom assistance, particularly in underserved areas, while giving the selected beneficiaries an opportunity to develop skills and experience.
