Kumasi Mayor Locks Shops of Traders Skipping Monthly Clean-Up

Kumasi Mayor Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi inspects locked shops in the central business district after traders failed to join the monthly clean-up.

Kumasi Mayor Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi has ordered the closure of shops in the central business district whose owners failed to join the city’s monthly sanitation exercise on November 1, 2025.The affected shops will remain locked until 2:00 p.m. as punishment for non-participation. The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) organized the clean-up to restore order and hygiene in major commercial areas.
The exercise, which started at 6:00 a.m., covered key routes including:

  • Zoo Roundabout to Otumfuo Roundabout via Pampaso
  • Otumfuo Roundabout to Acheamfour Market
  • MTN Roundabout to St. Louis College
  • Otumfuo Roundabout to Dr. Mensah
  • Boss FM to Central Market
  • Asafo Interchange and Asafo Market
  • Roman Hill to Alabar via Aboabo Station

Mayor Boadi expressed disappointment over repeated non-compliance despite prior warnings.“If we do not enforce strict measures, traders will continue to ignore sanitation day,” he said.The KMA has warned that further violations will attract fines, and anyone caught opening locked shops without authorization will be arrested.The Assembly urged all residents, traders, and drivers to actively support the clean-up to sustain a healthy and organized city.
