Chaos at WAEC Sekondi Office as Hundreds Face WASSCE Malpractice Probe

A chaotic scene erupted at the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) office in Sekondi as hundreds of anxious SHS graduates, teachers, and parents gathered following mass summons over suspected irregularities in the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
A viral TikTok video from Beach FM showed distraught students queuing outside the WAEC compound, awaiting individual questioning. Over 300 candidates from Obiri Senior High School in Takoradi reportedly had their results flagged, with the Council demanding written accounts of exam conduct.
Efforts to contact the school’s headteacher proved futile, heightening tensions. Students expressed fears of result cancellations, potentially derailing 2025/26 university admissions.
WAEC confirmed nationwide probes into malpractice hotspots, including Sekondi, to safeguard exam integrity.
The 2025 WASSCE results have sparked outrage:
39.87% (161,606 students) failed Integrated Science; 57.74% passed (A1–C6)
44% (196,727) failed Social Studies; 55.82% passed
50.54% (220,008) failed Core Mathematics; 48.73% passed
These figures have fueled debates on teaching standards, preparation, and credibility.
President John Mahama has ordered Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu to review the examiners’ report, probing systemic failures, including potential malpractice impacts.
As investigations proceed, affected students nationwide await fair outcomes, with cancelled results risking scholarships, admissions, and jobs.
