Woman Found Dead at Effiduase; Mother and 12-Year-Old Girl Hospitalised

A 26-year-old woman has been found dead inside a container shop at the Effiduase Airport community in the New Juaben North Municipality of the Eastern Region.
The deceased has been identified as Freda Agyeiwaa Benson. Her mother, Leticia Bamfoa, was found unconscious, while a 12-year-old girl, Juliet, was discovered in critical condition after reportedly vomiting blood.
The two survivors were rushed to the Eastern Regional Hospital for treatment. Medical personnel pronounced Freda dead on arrival, while Leticia and Juliet remain on admission receiving medical care.
Speaking to the media, Freda’s fiancé, Kofi Boakye, said the victims had been preparing food outside the container shop on Friday night ahead of a relative’s wedding scheduled for the weekend. According to him, the three later spent the night inside the shop.
He explained that concerns were raised the following morning after repeated knocks on the door went unanswered. Neighbours and relatives eventually forced the door open and found Freda and her mother unresponsive, while the 12-year-old girl was conscious but extremely weak.
Mr Boakye said preliminary laboratory tests have ruled out suspected food poisoning. He added that doctors have indicated an autopsy and further investigations will be conducted to determine the exact cause of the incident.
Community sources also alleged that there is an ongoing land dispute involving the parcel on which the container shop is located and claimed that Freda had previously received threats. However, these claims have not been independently verified.
Although the incident occurred near the Effiduase District Police Command, the family is yet to lodge a formal complaint with the police to facilitate a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the case.
Authorities are expected to investigate the incident to establish the cause of death and determine whether any criminal offence was committed.
