Woman Arrested in Western North for Allegedly Severing Daughter’s Toe

A 31-year-old woman, Vivian Anto, has been arrested by the Ghana Police Service at Juaboso in the Western North Region for allegedly cutting off her 9-year-old daughter’s toe as punishment.
The disturbing incident has left the child hospitalised and triggered widespread concern over child abuse in the area.
According to police reports, the suspect allegedly used a pair of scissors to sever the girl’s right index toe after she returned home late. The victim is currently receiving treatment at the Kofikrom SDA Hospital.
Officers who responded to the case visited the hospital and observed the child with a bandaged right foot. A preliminary medical assessment confirmed that the toe had been severed with a sharp object.
During initial questioning, the victim reportedly identified her mother as the person responsible for the act.
Vivian Anto remains in police custody assisting with investigations, as authorities continue to examine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
The case has sparked renewed calls for stronger enforcement of child protection laws and increased public awareness on the dangers of abusive disciplinary practices.
