NAS Saves Military Officer in Trotro Emergency; Hawkers and Bystanders Praise Swift Action at Bayard Junction

A swift and professional response by personnel of the National Ambulance Service (NAS) in Ablekuma North saved the life of a military officer who collapsed in a moving commercial vehicle (trotro) on Thursday morning.
The trotro, en route from Kasoa to Madina, made an emergency stop at Bayard Junction after passengers noticed a uniformed military officer seated at the back was unresponsive and showing signs of severe distress.
According to eyewitnesses, NAS personnel on duty nearby quickly responded after being alerted by concerned passengers and passersby. “The team didn’t waste a second,” said Kwame Mensah, a hawker at the scene.
“They entered the trotro, assessed the soldier, and gently moved him into the ambulance. Their speed and professionalism were admirable.”
The officers promptly initiated pre-hospital care before transporting the officer to the 37 Military Hospital for further treatment.
The exact cause of the officer’s condition remains unknown, but sources say he was in critical condition when the ambulance arrived.
“If not for the ambulance team, we could have lost him,” said Ama Serwaa, a bystander who assisted in clearing space for the ambulance. “It was like watching heroes in action.”
A representative from the National Ambulance Service later confirmed the incident and praised the Ablekuma North team for their dedication.
“Our personnel are trained for situations just like this,” the spokesperson said. “We’re proud of the swift action taken, and we continue to encourage the public to call the ambulance service in times of emergency.”
The incident has once again highlighted the essential role of emergency medical services in Ghana and the bravery of frontline personnel who risk their lives daily to save others.
