WAEC Releases 2025 WASSCE (Private) Second Series Provisional Results: 41,767 Candidates, Strong Performance in Social Studies, Concerns Over Malpractice

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the provisional results for the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for Private Candidates – Second Series, involving 41,767 candidates (20,036 males and 21,731 females), including 16 visually impaired and seven hearing-impaired candidates. A total of 2,422 registered candidates were absent.

In a statement signed by Head of Public Affairs John Kapi, WAEC detailed candidate performance across the four core subjects:

  • English Language — 67.43% achieved A1–C6 (pass); 11.25% scored D7, 10.28% E8, and 11.04% F9
  • Mathematics (Core) — 49.84% passed (A1–C6); 11.05% D7, 11.42% E8, and 27.69% F9
  • Integrated Science — 35% passed (A1–C6); 14.76% D7, 18.24% E8, and 32% F9
  • Social Studies — 81.21% passed (A1–C6); 4.64% D7, 3.72% E8, and 10.42% F9

Social Studies recorded the highest pass rate, while Integrated Science and Mathematics showed the lowest, highlighting persistent challenges in STEM-related subjects among private candidates.

WAEC has withheld:

  • The entire results of 348 candidates
  • The subject results of 469 others

for alleged examination malpractice, including collusion, impersonation, bringing unauthorised materials into the exam hall, and seeking external assistance. These results will either be released or cancelled following the conclusion of investigations.

The Council issued a stern warning against scammers promising to upgrade or release withheld results for a fee via mobile money or other means:

“WAEC’s results database is well secured, and all results can be authenticated. Institutions and organisations are advised to verify results presented to them directly from WAEC or access the confirmation/verification service online at the WAEC website.”

Candidates can check their provisional results at www.waecgh.org. Those with withheld results are directed to visit https://irreg.waec.org for details on reasons and next steps.

WAEC expressed gratitude to supervisors, invigilators, examiners, and all stakeholders for their roles in ensuring the smooth conduct of the examination and timely release of results.

The release of private candidate results comes ahead of the main WASSCE for school candidates (typically May–June), allowing private candidates who may have missed earlier opportunities or need to improve grades to plan accordingly.

The Council reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on malpractice and commitment to upholding the integrity of its examinations across West Africa. Candidates and the public are advised to use only official WAEC channels for result verification and avoid fraudulent actors.
