Violent Clash Erupts Between KTI and KASS Students in Kumasi, Property Destroyed

A violent clash between students of Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI) and Kumasi Anglican Senior High School (KASS) in the Ashanti region has resulted in the destruction of property on both campuses.

The rampage, which involved the burning of car tires and hurling of stones and other objects, left four private vehicles on the KASS campus, the school gate, and a billboard and notice board at KTI destroyed.

According to the Principal of KTI, Gabriel Kingsford Osei, the clash began when students from KASS attacked KTI with stones and machetes on Thursday night, attempting to vandalize their school billboard.

Osei alleged that he tried to calm the situation by speaking with the KASS students, but they disobeyed him and continued their destructive behavior, even with a security person present and armed with a catapult.

However, a tutor at KASS, Rev Father Kenneth Collins Owusu, attributed the clash to a fallout from arguments at the ongoing inter-school athletics event in Kumasi.

He stated that the least argument between students from the two schools often leads to such confrontations, and that when one group is provoked, they mobilize their colleagues to launch attacks.

The Ashanti regional education directorate has intervened, inviting authorities from both schools to find a lasting solution to the situation. The police also stepped in to bring the situation under control, although no arrests have been made as investigations continue.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety and security of students in the region, and the need for effective measures to prevent such violent clashes in the future.
