Ghana Condemns Military Coup in Guinea-Bissau, Calls for Return to Democracy

The Government of Ghana has strongly criticized the military coup in Guinea-Bissau. It calls the takeover illegal and a big threat to democracy.
In a statement from Accra on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, Ghana said it “strongly and fully condemns the coup d’état by parts of the military.” The action stops the election process after peaceful votes on November 23, 2025.
Ghana is worried about this bold move to ignore the people’s choice. The coup has blocked election results set for November 27, 2025.
The statement asks for quick return to normal rule. All sides must respect the vote. Any election problems should be fixed peacefully and by law.
Ghana wants safety for all people in Guinea-Bissau, including foreigners. It stresses protection for ECOWAS election observers there.
The government told Bissau-Guineans to stay calm and not make things worse. Ghana will work with ECOWAS and the African Union to fix this under rules for democracy and good government.
