US Immigration Court Grants Ken Ofori-Atta Green Card Application

A United States Immigration Court has granted former Ghanaian Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta approval of his I-485 application for adjustment of residency status, according to his legal team.
The decision was confirmed in a statement signed by his lawyer, Justice Kusi Minkah-Premo, dated June 16, 2028.
According to the statement, the ruling followed immigration proceedings in which the court reviewed evidence linked to actions taken by Ghana’s Office of the Special Prosecutor, including its earlier declaration of Mr Ofori-Atta as a fugitive from justice while he was reportedly receiving medical treatment in the United States and communicating through legal representatives in Ghana.
The legal team said the court found that the allegations and criminal charges being pursued in Ghana did not meet the required threshold of credibility within the context of U.S. immigration proceedings.
However, they emphasized that the decision was strictly limited to immigration law and should not be interpreted as a ruling on the substance of any criminal case in Ghana.
“The court’s decision was made within the framework of United States immigration proceedings and focused solely on whether Mr Ofori-Atta satisfied the legal requirements for adjustment of status,” the statement noted.
The lawyers further clarified that the judgment relates only to the immigration petition and does not affect or conclude any ongoing investigations or legal processes in Ghana.
