The Upper West Regional Police Command has recovered 17 stolen motorbikes and arrested four suspects during a special anti-robbery operation aimed at tackling motorbike theft and other violent crimes in the region.
In a statement issued on Thursday, July 23, the Police said the operation formed part of intensified efforts to clamp down on criminal activities across the region.
The four suspects have been identified as Yusif Mohammed Ali, Abdulai Ibrahim, Abubakar Abdul Rashid and Mustapha Abdul Aziz Posy. They were arrested between July 11 and July 15 in separate operations conducted in Wa, Charia and Hamile.
According to the Police, preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects were involved in the theft and sale of motorbikes. They have reportedly admitted to the offences and are assisting investigators with further enquiries.
The Command also revealed that investigations have led to the arrest of four additional individuals suspected of purchasing some of the stolen motorbikes.
The suspects have since been remanded into custody by the Wa Circuit Court and are expected to reappear before the court on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.
Meanwhile, the Police have appealed to owners of stolen motorbikes to visit their respective District Police Headquarters with valid proof of ownership to facilitate the identification and retrieval of their motorcycles.
