University of Ghana Security Guard Arrested Over Assault Video

A security guard at the University of Ghana has been arrested after a viral video showed him allegedly assaulting a man on campus.

Police identified the suspect as Ebenezer Annor Darko, a member of the university’s Safety and Security Services Directorate. He is currently in custody and assisting with investigations.

According to police, the arrest was carried out by the Inspector-General of Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team after the footage surfaced online, appearing to show the suspect beating, stomping and slapping a man.

Authorities indicated that the victim had been detained on suspicion of theft prior to the incident.

University launches internal probe

In a statement, the University of Ghana confirmed it had taken note of the video and initiated its own investigation to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

The university said the inquiry would be conducted in line with its code of conduct for staff.

Police caution against mob justice

Police have assured the public that investigations are ongoing and further updates will be provided.

They also used the opportunity to caution against mob justice, urging the public to rely on lawful processes when dealing with suspected offenders.

The incident has sparked public concern over the use of force and accountability within institutional security systems.
