Two Young Men Killed in Tragic Road Crash at Nuaso Newtown in Eastern Region

Two young men have lost their lives following a horrific road accident at Nuaso Newtown on the Somanya-Kpong Highway in the Eastern Region, throwing residents of the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality into mourning.
The deceased have been identified as 20-year-old Ebenezer Nartey, a commercial motorcycle (okada) rider, and his 23-year-old friend, Tetteh Djornorbour, a driver.
According to preliminary police investigations, the accident occurred around 2:30 p.m. on Monday, June 22, 2026. Nartey was riding an unregistered Royal motorbike from Somanya towards Kpong with Djornorbour as a passenger when the incident happened.
Police reports indicate that upon reaching Nuaso Newtown, the rider allegedly attempted to overtake a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter bus with registration number GG 632-14. In the process, the motorcycle reportedly struck the rear driver’s side of the bus, causing both occupants to fall onto the road.
Tragically, they were run over by an oncoming Hyundai truck, registration number GT 5603-23, driven by 32-year-old Abdallah Isaaka. The truck, which was transporting bags of rice, was unable to avoid the victims after they fell onto the roadway.
Both men sustained severe injuries and were rushed for emergency medical treatment but were pronounced dead on arrival. Their bodies have since been deposited at the St. Martin de Porres Hospital in Agormanya.
Police officers who visited the scene transported the damaged motorcycle and the two vehicles involved to the station. The vehicles are expected to undergo technical examination by officials of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) as investigations continue.
Community sources revealed that Tetteh Djornorbour had earlier accompanied his mother to the farm before leaving to join his friend on what turned out to be a fatal journey.
The incident has sparked fresh concerns over the rising number of motorcycle-related accidents in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality, with road safety advocates calling for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations and increased caution among riders and motorists.
Meanwhile, family members, friends and residents have been left devastated by the loss, as the community continues to mourn the two young men.
