Two Men Arrested in Effiakuma for Forcing Teenagers into Sexual Act on Video – Police Confirm

The Western Regional Police Command has arrested two suspects caught in a widely circulated video physically assaulting and forcing two teenagers — a 13-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy — to engage in sexual intercourse in public view.
The suspects, Edward Azalekor, 52, the Assemblyman for Effiakuma West Electoral Area, and Martin Amuzu, 35, who is the uncle of the female victim, were taken into custody on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at Effiakuma following a tip-off and a viral WhatsApp video received by Connect 97.1 FM in Takoradi.
According to the police statement, the incident occurred after the 13-year-old girl left home without informing her mother on the afternoon of February 16, 2026, and returned around 7:40 p.m. Angered by her disappearance, the mother contacted Assemblyman Edward Azalekor to discipline the girl.
The suspects then allegedly lured the teenage boy to the scene and forced the two minors to have sexual intercourse in an uncompleted building while others watched, cheered, laughed, and filmed the act. In the video, Azalekor is heard whipping the boy and issuing degrading instructions such as:
“You think you are smart. Take off your shorts, and do it quickly before I let you go.” “You, too, take off your dress and open your legs for him. Do it, or else I will use the belt on you. Do it, and kiss him as well. If she says it has entered, I’ll stop beating you, but if not, you’ll be beaten till the next day.”
The footage shows the boy with his shorts down, positioning himself between the girl’s legs as she lay on her back with legs open, while the assault was recorded amid laughter from onlookers.
Both suspects were arraigned before the Harbor District Court in Takoradi on Friday, February 27, 2026. They were granted bail in the sum of GH¢20,000 each with one surety each and are scheduled to reappear on Thursday, March 5, 2026.
The female victim is currently in protective custody with the Department of Social Welfare. Investigations continue to locate and arrest Isaac Nana Osei, who is alleged to have filmed the act and is currently on the run.
The Ghana Police Service has condemned the incident in the strongest terms, describing it as a grave violation of the rights and dignity of minors. The Command has assured the public that all individuals involved — including those who cheered, filmed, or shared the video — will face the full rigours of the law.
The case has sparked widespread outrage across social media and in the Western Region, with many calling for swift justice and stronger protection for children against abuse and exploitation. Child rights organisations and gender advocates have also demanded a thorough probe into the role of community leaders in such incidents.
The Western Regional Police have appealed to the public for any additional information or footage that could assist in identifying other participants or accomplices. The investigation remains active.
