Two Dead, Six Injured in Fatal Crash on Accra-Kumasi Highway

Two people have died and six others sustained injuries in a fatal road crash at Dr. Mabel Junction on the Accra-Kumasi Highway.
The accident occurred on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, and involved a DAF truck with registration number BF 1722E6, a VW Sprinter bus with registration number ER 195-24, and a tricycle with registration number M-25-AS-8071.
Firefighters from the Suhum Municipal Fire Station quickly responded to the scene and rescued one person who was trapped beneath the DAF truck.
The injured victims were subsequently transported to the Suhum Government Hospital for medical attention.
According to preliminary findings by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the crash was caused by an apparent brake failure, which resulted in the DAF truck losing control and crashing into the Sprinter bus.
The impact reportedly caused the Sprinter to collide with the tricycle, which was parked at the time.
The tricycle was completely destroyed, while the DAF truck and Sprinter bus sustained varying degrees of damage.
The GNFS has urged motorists to ensure their vehicles are regularly serviced and to exercise caution on the roads to reduce the risk of preventable accidents.
Authorities are expected to continue investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
