Two security guards at Bolgatanga Girls’ Senior High School (BOGISS) are standing trial for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old first-year student with special needs, with prosecutors alleging that the girl was enticed with food, money and a mobile phone.
The accused, 72-year-old Adams Nyaaba Iddrisu and 38-year-old Elvis Adongo, have been charged with defilement under Section 101 of the Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
The case came to light after school authorities discovered that the student, who was a boarding student, was in possession of an Itel keypad mobile phone allegedly purchased for her by Iddrisu.
According to the prosecution, the discovery prompted the school’s Dean of Discipline to question the student. During the questioning, she allegedly disclosed that Iddrisu had bought the phone for her and subsequently accused both security guards of sexually abusing her on several occasions.
Prosecutors told the Bolgatanga Circuit Court on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, that the alleged incidents occurred between June and July 2026 at different locations within the school.
The prosecution said the student regularly charged her tablet at the school’s security room after evening studies, creating opportunities for the accused persons to allegedly take advantage of her vulnerability.
Investigators further allege that the student was enticed with food, financial assistance and other items, including the mobile phone.
During further questioning, the student allegedly identified several locations where the sexual encounters took place, including the security room, an area behind the school’s dining hall, and a classroom in the Unity Block after evening studies.
The matter was subsequently reported to the police on July 23, 2026, by Celestina Atuora, Assistant Headmistress in charge of Domestic Affairs at BOGISS.
Following the report, both security guards were arrested and brought before the court.
The court, presided over by Sumaila Nbache Ahmadu, granted each of the accused persons bail in the sum of GH¢100,000.
