Two Arrests in Accra: Suspect Held for Robbery at Namibian High Commission Staff Residence, Another for Threatening Uber Driver with Toy Gun

The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with a robbery attack on a staff member of the Namibian High Commission at the Airport Residential Area, while officers in Weija also detained a man for allegedly threatening an Uber driver with a toy gun during a fare dispute.

In the first case, the robbery took place on February 23, 2026, when the victim was walking to the Namibian High Commission. She reported that a young man on a motorbike attacked her and snatched her handbag before fleeing. The bag contained valuables including an iPhone 15 Pro Max worth GH¢19,000, a Huawei P50 Pro valued at GH¢11,000, her Namibian diplomatic passport, driver’s licence, ATM cards, office and house keys, and other personal items.

Police launched an investigation after the complaint was lodged on February 25. Investigators traced the stolen iPhone 15 Pro Max to a spare parts dealer near Agbogbloshie Total filling station, leading to the arrest of 26-year-old Miracle Asare. Further enquiries took officers to Kwame Nkrumah Circle, where two phone dealers were picked up as part of the chain that handled the device. The second phone was tracked to Dansoman, resulting in another arrest.

The main suspect, 24-year-old Daniel Ashiagbe, an okada rider, was eventually apprehended. During interrogation, he admitted to carrying out the robbery on February 23. He told police he sold the iPhone 15 Pro Max near KFC at Kwame Nkrumah Circle for GH¢2,500 and the Huawei phone for GH¢1,000. He also confessed to burning the victim’s diplomatic passport and other documents in the handbag.

Investigators believe Ashiagbe may be linked to similar robberies in parts of Accra. He remains in custody assisting with ongoing enquiries.

In a separate incident, the Weija Divisional Police Command arrested Jeffrey Selassie Johnson after he allegedly threatened an Uber driver with an imitation firearm during a disagreement over transport fare at Aplaku.

Police said the suspect hired the driver to take him from Weija China Mall to his residence at Aplaku. During the trip, he asked the driver to stop so he could buy food, which extended the journey and led to an argument over the fare. Upon arrival, Johnson refused to pay and went inside. He returned with a replica Beretta toy pistol and used it to threaten the driver.

The driver immediately alerted the police. A patrol team responded swiftly, arrested Johnson and recovered the toy gun from his room after a search.

The suspect has been cautioned and the case has been forwarded to court.

The Accra Regional Police Command used both incidents to remind the public to avoid using threats or violence to settle disputes. Officers warned that individuals who deal in stolen goods or handle suspicious items will face arrest and prosecution.

“The command assures the public of its commitment to combating robbery and criminal activities within the region,” the police statement said.

Investigations continue in both cases, and authorities are appealing for anyone with additional information to come forward.
