Two Arrested as Police Foil Robbery Plot in Obuasi

The Ghana Police Service has arrested two suspects in connection with a robbery attack on an Indian national and a planned heist targeting a distribution company in Obuasi.
The arrests were carried out by the Ashanti South Regional Police Intelligence Directorate during intelligence-led operations between April 16 and April 20, 2026.
Details of the Arrests
The suspects, identified as Iddrisu Fuseini (alias “Iddi”) and Shaibu Mohammed (also known as “SM” or “Cicinati”), were picked up at different locations following police surveillance and tip-offs.
Fuseini was arrested at his hideout in Bedieso after police received intelligence about a planned armed robbery. During interrogation, he reportedly confessed to being part of a six-member gang responsible for an earlier attack at New Baakoyeden on April 12.
Robbery of Indian National
According to investigators, the gang attacked an Indian national at his residence and stole GH₵150,000.
Police revealed that the robbery was allegedly facilitated by an insider, identified as Ibrahim, an employee of the victim, who is believed to have provided information about large sums of money kept in the house.
Further investigations led to the arrest of Mohammed at Gausu on April 20. He reportedly admitted involvement in the earlier robbery and disclosed plans to attack a distribution company near Mawuli Hotel in Obuasi.
The police say the planned robbery has now been successfully foiled.
Authorities confirmed that both suspects are currently standing trial before the Obuasi Circuit Court in connection with a separate robbery case involving GH₵600,000.
Meanwhile, a manhunt has been launched for other members of the gang, identified as Khalifa, Edward, Prof, Waddle, Ebbe, and Ibrahim.
Police believe the suspects may be armed with a pump-action gun and a locally manufactured pistol.
The Ghana Police Service has assured residents that efforts are underway to arrest the remaining suspects and recover the weapons. The public is being urged to provide any relevant information to assist ongoing investigations.
