Tragic New Year Accident: Church Bus Kills Two, Injures Over Ten in Assin Dansame

A devastating accident in the early hours of January 1, 2026, has claimed two lives and left more than ten people injured at Assin Dansame in the Central Region.
A bus carrying members of the Second Chance Ministry crashed into a crowd participating in a street float celebration. The bus was returning from a 31st Night crossover service in Kumasi and heading to Breman Anwhiem in the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District when the tragedy happened.
The two victims—a 21-year-old apprentice and a student from Sunyani Technical University—died instantly at the scene.
The injured were quickly rushed to hospitals across the region for urgent medical care.
The crash sparked anger among local residents, with some youth vandalising the bus in protest before police arrived to calm the situation and restore order.
Central North Regional MTTD Commander, ASP Wonder Lumor, confirmed the incident and said a full investigation is underway to find out exactly what caused the driver to lose control and plough into the crowd.
Authorities are urging calm as they work to establish the facts and support the affected families during this painful time.
