Toothless Rent Control has to be scrapped -Gen. Sec. For National Tenants Union of Ghana

The General Secretary for the National Tenants Union of Ghana has called for the scrapping of ‘toothless’ Rent Control in the country.

The call was made during an interview with appiah kubi on Ghanaman Nkɔsoɔ.

 the General Secretary highlighted the ineffectiveness of the current rent control policies in addressing the housing crisis facing tenants in Ghana.

According to the General Secretary, the current rent control measures in place are not providing adequate protection for tenants against exorbitant rent increases and unfair eviction practices by landlords. He emphasized the need for stronger regulations to be put in place to ensure that tenants are not exploited and are able to access affordable housing.

He also pointed out that the lack of enforcement and monitoring of rent control policies has allowed landlords to take advantage of tenants, leading to a situation where many individuals and families are struggling to afford decent housing. He stressed the importance of implementing measures that would hold landlords accountable and provide greater security for tenants.

In light of these concerns, the General Secretary called for the government to take urgent action to address the housing crisis and ensure that tenants are protected from unfair practices. He urged policymakers to reconsider the current rent control measures and implement more effective regulations that would benefit both tenants and landlords.
