Teshie ‘Spiritualist’ Jailed 3 Years for GH¢95,100 Fraud

A 35-year-old self-styled spiritualist has been sentenced to three years in prison by an Accra Circuit Court after admitting to defrauding a man of GH¢95,100 under false pretences.
The convict, Nana Adwoa Yamoah, was found guilty of deception and operating without the required registration and licence.
According to the prosecution, the victim, Douglas Abu, was introduced to Yamoah in 2025 through an acquaintance who presented her as a spiritualist with powerful connections.
Yamoah allegedly claimed she had links to the Asantehene and could facilitate Abu’s installation as chief of Ntotroso. Based on this promise, she collected large sums of money, assuring him the process would be completed by January.
The court heard that she further took GH¢51,000 from the victim with a promise to double the amount, which never materialised. She also convinced him to travel to Benin for supposed spiritual fortification at his own cost, but no such activity took place.
Suspicions arose when the promises failed, prompting Abu to demand a refund. After Yamoah failed to repay the money, the matter was reported to the police, leading to her arrest on March 9, 2026.
Investigations revealed that Yamoah was not registered with the Traditional Medicine Practice Council and had allegedly used similar schemes to defraud others.
She pleaded guilty to the charges and was convicted on her own plea. Sentencing was briefly delayed pending a pregnancy test, which returned negative, after which the court handed down a three-year custodial sentence.
