12 in Critical Condition After Three-Vehicle Crash at Gomoa Amenfi

Twelve passengers are in critical condition following a serious three-vehicle accident on the Winneba–Mankessim Highway at Gomoa Amenfi on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.
The collision involved:
A Toyota Voxy passenger vehicle (registration GN 9883-25) travelling from Kasoa to Cape Coast
A Nissan Altima (registration GW 1895-09) heading in the opposite direction
A Hyundai Elantra saloon car (registration GR 1972-15)
According to eyewitness accounts and preliminary police reports, the Toyota Voxy attempted an unauthorised overtaking manoeuvre and collided head-on with the Nissan Altima. The impact caused the Hyundai Elantra, which was following behind, to ram into the Toyota Voxy.
Eight passengers from the Toyota Voxy and four occupants of the Nissan Altima sustained serious injuries, bringing the total number of critically injured victims to 12.
All injured persons were rushed to the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital for emergency medical treatment.
Personnel from the Winneba Police and the Ghana National Fire Service (Apam station) responded swiftly to the scene, extricated trapped victims, provided first aid, and cleared the road to restore traffic flow.
The exact cause of the accident is under investigation, but initial indications point to reckless overtaking as a key factor.
Authorities have appealed to drivers to exercise caution, especially on busy highways, and to avoid dangerous overtaking manoeuvres.
No fatalities have been reported so far, but the condition of several victims remains critical.
