Tanyigbe SHS Plunged Into Darkness After Rainstorm Destroys Electricity Pole

Tanyigbe Senior High School has been without electricity for almost a week after a heavy rainstorm destroyed a power pole supplying electricity to the school.
The incident occurred on May 22, 2026, when strong winds and heavy rainfall caused a large tree to fall onto the electricity pole, cutting off power to the entire school community.
The prolonged outage is now affecting academic activities, especially preparations for the ongoing 2026 WASSCE examinations.
School authorities say the matter was immediately reported to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), but they claim no officials have visited the school to assess the damage or begin repair works.
Teachers say the situation is creating serious difficulties for final-year students, many of whom are struggling to study effectively at night without electricity.
Some students have reportedly resorted to using torchlights and other improvised lighting methods to continue their studies.
The school’s computer laboratory has also been temporarily shut down, disrupting ICT practical lessons and other academic activities.
Authorities at the school are therefore appealing for urgent intervention to restore power and help students continue their academic work under better conditions.
Currently, about 175 candidates are writing the WASSCE at the school.
Tanyigbe SHS serves several communities within the Ho Municipality, including Klave, Shia, Avee, Nyive, Tokokoe, Atikpui, and nearby areas.
