Sunyani Traditional Council Seals Deal with Chinese Investor for 20-Year China Mall Project

The Sunyani Traditional Council, led by Nana Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II, has signed a landmark agreement with Chinese investor Lin Daoping to construct a modern China Mall in the heart of Sunyani.

Under the 20-year lease agreement, the Council has released a prime 1.41-acre plot located at Sunyani East Newtown — the current site of the Centre for National Culture (CNC) — for the multi-million cedi commercial development.

At the end of the 20-year term, ownership of the land and any permanent structures will automatically revert to the Sunyani Stool unless both parties mutually agree to renew or revise the terms.

The project is expected to transform the commercial landscape of Sunyani, create hundreds of direct and indirect jobs, boost local trade, and position the regional capital as a major retail and wholesale hub in the Bono and Ahafo areas.

Traditional authorities hailed the deal as a strategic partnership that balances foreign investment with the protection of stool land interests.

Details on the exact investment value, construction timeline, and relocation plans for the Centre for National Culture are yet to be disclosed, but sources close to the Council say groundbreaking is expected in early 2026.

The agreement comes at a time when several Ghanaian cities, including Kumasi, Takoradi, and Tamale, have seen the establishment of similar Chinese-backed retail complexes.
