State Funeral for Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings Set for November 28 at Independence Square

The Government has announced a state funeral for the late former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings on Friday, November 28, 2025, at Independence Square, Accra, in recognition of her decades-long contributions to women’s empowerment, child welfare, and national development.
The announcement, signed by Minister for Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu, follows her passing on October 23 at age 76. President John Dramani Mahama will lead the ceremony, honoring her as Ghana’s longest-serving First Lady (1979–2001) and founder of the 31st December Women’s Movement, which established preschools, literacy programs, and advocated for the Intestate Succession Law (PNDCL 111).
Nana Konadu, who in 2016 became the first woman to run for president under the National Democratic Party (NDP), is remembered as a trailblazer in gender equality and rural mobilization. Parliament suspended sittings in her honor, and her family requested privacy during mourning.
The funeral will bring together dignitaries, diplomats, and the public. Further details will be released soon
