Six, Including Three-Month-Old Baby, Killed in Midnight Fire at Abuakwa Manhyia

At least six people, including a three-month-old baby, have lost their lives after a devastating fire engulfed an apartment at Abuakwa Manhyia in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

The tragic incident occurred at about 12:30 a.m. on Monday, December 22, 2025. The cause of the fire is yet to be established.

Confirming the incident, the Assembly Member for Abuakwa Manhyia, Evans Opoku, told Citi News that the fire broke out shortly after electricity supply was restored to parts of the Ashanti Region following a temporary power outage on Sunday evening.

According to him, firefighters from the Nkawie and Twedie Fire Service stations were swiftly dispatched to the scene and succeeded in bringing the blaze under control. However, by the time the fire was contained, the victims had already been trapped inside the apartment and could not escape.

Police officers who visited the scene have since identified the charred bodies and are making arrangements to convey them to the morgue for preservation and autopsy.

Investigations have been launched to determine the exact cause of the fire, as authorities urge residents to observe fire safety measures, especially following power restoration after outages.
