One Dead, Two Rescued in Truck Accident on Accra–Kumasi Highway

One person has been confirmed dead while two others were rescued following a serious road traffic accident at Breku Forest near the Pra River on the Accra–Kumasi Highway in the Ashanti Region.
The accident occurred on Sunday, January 25, 2026, when a Howo Sinotruk truck loaded with cement reportedly lost control and overturned, trapping three occupants inside the vehicle.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded promptly to a distress call, deploying a joint rescue team from the Konongo Odumase and Juaso Fire Stations, led by Sub Officer Siaw Richardson. Upon arrival, firefighters carried out a careful rescue operation to extricate the trapped victims from the mangled truck.
Two injured persons were successfully rescued alive and handed over to the National Ambulance Service, which transported them in an ambulance with registration number GV 589–20 to the Juaso Government Hospital for medical treatment.
One occupant was, however, found dead at the scene. The body was retrieved by the rescue team and handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigations and necessary procedures.
The truck sustained extensive damage, particularly to its front section. The cause of the accident is yet to be established, and investigations are currently underway by the relevant authorities.
The rescue operation highlighted the speed, professionalism, and bravery of the Ghana National Fire Service personnel, whose timely intervention helped save lives under challenging conditions.
