Heavy Downpour Triggers Flooding in Kaneshie and Parts of Accra

A heavy downpour on Friday caused flooding in several parts of Accra, with Kaneshie emerging as one of the worst affected areas as floodwaters submerged roads and disrupted movement across sections of the capital.
Several vehicles were left stranded while pedestrians struggled to move through waterlogged streets following hours of continuous rainfall.
Areas around the Kpone Barrier and Santa Maria also experienced significant flooding as drains overflowed, forcing some commuters and traders to seek shelter.
Residents in other parts of Accra reported similar flooding incidents, once again raising concerns over the city’s recurring drainage challenges during heavy rains.
The rainfall also resulted in heavy traffic congestion on major roads as motorists battled poor visibility and flooded intersections.
Although no casualties had been officially reported as of Friday evening, authorities are expected to assess the extent of damage caused by the floods.
The flooding has renewed calls for urgent improvements to Accra’s drainage infrastructure to help reduce the impact of seasonal rains on residents and businesses.
