Senior Nursing Officer Granted GH¢100,000 Bail Over Alleged False News Publication

Senior Nursing Officer Salomey Awiti Baffoe has been granted bail of GH¢100,000 in a case in which she is accused of abetting the alleged publication and circulation of false news on social media.
The court ordered that Ms Baffoe, 40, be released on two sureties, each of whom must be a civil servant earning a monthly salary of at least GH¢3,000.
Ms Baffoe has pleaded not guilty to the charge and had remained in custody as proceedings continued.
Her detention had raised concerns among her family, who appealed to the government to facilitate her release.
The family said her continued absence was having an impact on her children, who were struggling without their mother.
The latest bail decision follows an earlier refusal by the High Court to grant her bail after prosecutors argued that she was still required to assist with investigations and could potentially interfere with witnesses.
The case has also experienced delays, with proceedings previously adjourned to October 5 because the presiding magistrate was attending a conference for judges and magistrates.
Ms Baffoe is alleged to have participated in the publication and circulation of information on social media that the prosecution considers false.
The prosecution is expected to continue presenting its case when proceedings resume.
Her lawyers, however, maintain that she is presumed innocent until proven guilty and have continued to defend her right to a fair trial.
