The Central Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has restricted the celebration of Akwasidae in the Denkyira Traditional Area to palace premises and suspended all chieftaincy installation ceremonies amid concerns over the security situation in the area.
The directive was contained in a letter dated August 28, 2026, signed by the Central Regional Minister and Chairman of REGSEC, Hon. Eduamoah Ekow Panyin Okyere, and addressed to the Denkyirahene, Odeefo Boa Amponsem IV.
REGSEC directed that all Akwasidae rituals, gatherings and celebrations be held strictly within the premises of the traditional palaces in Dunkwa-On-Offin.
The Council has also placed an immediate hold on the proposed installation of sub-chiefs and other traditional leaders by either faction in the ongoing chieftaincy dispute.
According to the directive, “No installation processes or ceremonies shall take place until further notice.”
REGSEC warned that failure to comply with the directive could lead to an immediate ban and the physical shutdown of activities by state security agencies.
The Council said security personnel have been deployed to monitor the various palaces and ensure strict compliance with the directive.
It further warned that anyone who violates the restrictions would face arrest and prosecution.
Meanwhile, REGSEC is expected to invite representatives of both factions to a resolution meeting in the coming days to discuss the dispute and determine the way forward.
The latest measures are aimed at preventing possible clashes and maintaining peace and stability in the Denkyira Traditional Area as efforts continue to resolve the chieftaincy-related tensions.
