The Ghana Police Service has directed owners and operators of concrete mixer trucks to suspend operations on roads within Accra and Tema from Friday, August 28 to Sunday, August 30, 2026.
The directive follows an engagement between the Police and operators of transit mixer trucks on road safety and compliance with traffic regulations.
The meeting, held on Thursday, August 27, was led by Inspector General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohuno under the auspices of the National Security Secretariat.
According to the Police, the temporary suspension is intended to facilitate the clearing and cleaning of roads affected by concrete and other materials spilled by mixer trucks.
Authorities raised concerns that concrete spillages on roads:
- Obstruct traffic and create hazards for motorists;
- Endanger other road users;
- Damage road surfaces; and
- Contribute to poor road conditions.
The Police have therefore instructed operators to ensure that concrete and other materials are not discharged or left on roads during transportation or other operations.
No concrete mixer truck will be permitted to operate on roads within Accra and Tema during the three-day suspension.
The Police warned that vehicles found operating in breach of the directive will face appropriate enforcement action in accordance with the law.
The engagement also involved representatives from the Ministry of Roads and Highways, Ghana Highway Authority, and owners and operators of concrete mixer trucks.
The temporary restriction forms part of broader efforts to improve road safety, keep roads clean and protect Ghana’s road infrastructure.
