Police Rescue 9-Year-Old Girl from Alleged Abduction, Arrest Suspect at Airport

The Ghana Police Service has rescued a nine-year-old girl who was allegedly abducted at Agormanya Zongo in the Odumase-Krobo District of the Eastern Region and arrested a female suspect in connection with the case.

Swift Police Action

According to the Eastern Regional Police Command, the operation followed a complaint filed on April 19, 2026, by the victim’s father after the child failed to return home.

Through intelligence-led investigations, officers from the Odumase-Krobo District Command, with support from the Bureau of National Investigations, tracked and arrested the suspect at the Kotoka International Airport on Monday, April 20.

Suspect and Allegations

The suspect, identified as Regina Mamle Tawiah, is alleged to have been attempting to send the child to Kenya at the time of her arrest.

Victim Rescued

The girl was successfully rescued at the airport and has since been reunited with her father.

Court Proceedings

The suspect was arraigned before the Odumase-Krobo Circuit Court on April 21, where she pleaded not guilty.

She has been remanded into police custody and is expected to reappear in court on May 5, 2026, for a case management conference.

Public Advisory

Police have urged the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities, stressing the importance of community cooperation in preventing child trafficking and abduction cases.
