Police at the Nkwanta–Breweniase barrier in the Oti Region have intercepted a large cache of ammunition and arrested two suspects linked to its transport.

The consignment was discovered during a routine check on a cargo truck travelling from Accra-Tema Station towards Damanko. A search of the vehicle revealed more than 20,000 rounds of ammunition, including 7,000 AA cartridges, 3,000 BB rounds, and over 1,100 AK-47 bullets, along with a foreign-made firearm.

The driver, Kende Richard, 26, and his mate, Latif Adam, 20, have been taken into custody and are assisting with investigations.

Police say efforts are underway to determine the origin, destination, and possible network behind the shipment, as security remains heightened in the area due to ongoing concerns about instability.

The operation has drawn praise from the public, with many commending officers for preventing a potentially dangerous consignment from reaching its destination
