Police Bust Indian Hemp Operation: 11 Suspects Arrested in Nsuta and Techiman Raids

The Ghana Police Service’s Eastern North Regional Command has arrested 11 suspects in connection with a large-scale Indian hemp cultivation and distribution ring operating in Nsuta and Techiman, Bono East Region, seizing over 1,650 slabs of the substance valued at millions of cedis.

The operation, conducted on October 28, targeted two women—Hawa Ibrahim and Latifa Adams—at a suspected drug factory in Ampekrom, Nkawkaw, where officers uncovered 24 maxi bags containing compressed and ball-shaped substances believed to be Indian hemp.

The suspects, aged 35 and 42, were apprehended after intelligence-led surveillance confirmed the site as a production hub.

DCOP Eric Kojo Asante, Eastern North Commander, confirmed the bust in a statement: “The arrests resulted from a joint effort with the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), disrupting a major supply chain.”

The women, from Ampekrom, face charges under the Narcotic Drugs (Control, Enforcement, and Sanctions) Act, 1990 (PNDCL 236), with court appearance pending.

Preliminary investigations suggest the duo sourced seeds from Techiman and distributed to Nsuta markets, evading detection through hidden cultivation in abandoned farms.

The haul, estimated at GH¢2.5 million street value, marks the largest seizure in the region since May 2025’s 92-slab bust in Antokrom.
